CHILD PROTECTIVE SERVICES
HOLE 9
ADOPTION AND FOSTER CARE

Incarceration shapes the adoption and foster care systems. 80% of women in jail have at least one child, and 60,000 people each year are pregnant when they enter the prison system. Their children often end up in foster care. There are approximately 400,000 kids in the U.S. foster care system today. This hole discusses the connections between the foster care, adoption, and incarceration systems and their impacts on parents and children.
