CPCs are increasingly using mobile units to extend their geographic and political reach. Today, there are between 170 and 260 mobile CPCs in operation or production across 41 different U.S. states. And they are on the move. Based on the location schedules posted on mobile CPCs’ social media accounts and websites, it appears that they travel anywhere from 2 to 100 miles from the location of their registered address, which is typically that of a brick-and-mortar CPC. In so doing, they cross city, county, and state borders, moving outside of and between jurisdictional and geographic scales and, thus, decreasing possibilities for state regulation. They can also more easily attack their targets. Mobile CPCs park right outside of abortion clinics, go to high schools and colleges, and target those in low-income and racialized neighborhoods as well as rural areas.
